How Do Dentures Work?
Dentures allow patients with missing teeth to speak fluently and restore chewing function. When a patient loses their natural teeth, it creates an aged look due to their facial muscles loosening and relaxing around the jaw. Dentures not only restore function, they help fill out the face, improving appearance and encouraging the muscles to tighten.
What Are The Different Types Of Dentures?
- Conventional dentures
- Immediate dentures
- Overdentures
How To Maintain New Dentures?
Follow these tips to extend the durability of your dentures.
- Soak dentures in warm water with a cleaning tablet before brushing to aid in removal of debris. Remember, do not brush your dentures with toothpaste!
- Use a separate denture brush, not a traditional toothbrush, to clean the grooves of your dentures.
- Thoroughly clean your mouth using either a soft toothbrush or rag. Remove loose food particles in the roof of your mouth, cheeks, gums, and tongue.
- When you are not using the dentures, store them in a safe place and submerge them in water to avoid warping.
